TIGSource Devlog Zine #14

[Interactive version here, on Venus Patrol]

This week's selection shows some love for pixel art, with fourteen games in development showing true skill with the pixel brush! We have Chasm in the middle of a Kickstarter campaign, Tale of the Stolen Rainbow creating an epic Zelda-like adventure with minimalist black and white pixels, and then there's The Bitter End.. oh wait, it seems to have been made in Hexels!

I'd also like to point out that Dungeon Hearts, a puzzler for the quick mind, has finally been released on the App Store, after over two years of thorough devlogs on the TIGSource Forums. You should probably read their entries, especially if you enjoy the soundtrack - there's a freebie in there somewhere!

Games: Dungeon Hearts, Upthere, Meta4, GetOff, Grotto Quest, Pipeworks, Sprout, Olav and the Flute, Solstice, Tale of the Stolen Rainbow, The Bitter End, Chasm, Dying Sun, Sky Tourist, Trash TV, Super Punchball, The Dungeoning, Grabbyhands

[Fridays on Venus Patrol are designer Dominique 'Dom2D' Ferland's day to present TIGSource DevLog Magazine, a visual guide to the newest & most interesting in-development games making the rounds on the invaluable TIGSource forums. Looking for inspiration, or just the very first look at the amazing games we'll be talking about in the future? Click any image to learn more, and come back on Fridays for the latest picks!]

This week’s issue showcases a whopping sixteen new games in development, in all genres and styles. Catching up on the craziness I missed in the past couple weeks, I’ve been through a lot of emotions. I was amazed by the gloomy environment art of Aliceffekt’s iOS adventure gameHiversaires, intrigued by Red Rover‘s mysterious screenshots of looming space stations, excited by the thought of becoming a jousting knight inPixelry… and strangely aroused by the pixelated sexual content of minimalist pulp adventure game After the Comet.

Also, the 16-bit style action adventure game Anodyne has finally been released – check out its 32 page long forum thread to know everything about its development, from early concept art to completion.

During the holiday break, the TIGSource Devlog Zine got a little make-over, and with it I've decided to change its schedule - the zine will now be published every two weeks!

Now that we're back, you should catch up on the incredibles games in development - new screenshots have been added to Two Brothers, Saturated Dreamers, Jack the Reaper, SpaceHero Command and lots of other cool new games. I'd also recommend you visit Tower of Gorillion's forum thread for more screens and info about this new action platformer.

19 games: Hellas, Delver's Drop, Tower of the Gorillion, Momodora III, Chasm, Everlasting Tower, Aces, Hartacon, HammerWatch, SpaceHero Command, Paranautical Activity, Saturated Dreamers, Two Brothers, CrossCode, Waker

Would you look at all the colors in this week's issue? We explore the dark corridors of spaceships filled with evil robots in Steam Marines, jump around Another Castle in our brand new jetpack, swim in the crazy seas of Geisha Novia, and skulk creepily in a foggy forest in Stealth Vampire... My personal favorite this week has got to be I Found My Place, a beautiful, creepy experimental adventure game - check out the new teaser they just put out, you'll see what I mean.

Between Clouds, Polycode, Pavilion, Steam Marines, Space Hero Command, Crawle, Another Castle, Geisha Novia, I Found My Place, Papers Please, Vampire Stealth, Nadia Was Here, Scraps, Meadow, Cannon Brawl, Super Space Bucks, Noomix

TIGSource Devlog Magazine

As the month of November ends, we see the Sports competition nearing completion. Blood Ball, Flog, Home Run and Unicorrida all seem pretty much finished, and I can't wait to try them out. A surprising addition to the compo roster is Spelunky's creator and TIGSource guru Derek Yu's own entry - a funky tennis game called Boogie Tennis.

A Man's Quest, Anodyne, Attack of the Gelatinous Blog, Blood Ball, Bodybuilder Destroyer, Boogie Tennis, Chopper Mike, Dead Dog in Space, Disorder, Escalated Strange, Flog, Home Run, Jungle.com, KingStone, MiniFlake, Telepath Tactics, Terra Incognita, Triverse, Unicorrida

As always, click the pic to go on the Venus Patrol article, where you can click on each game to visit its thread!

TIGSource Devlog Magazine #8

Game designers don't have time for any of that turkey stuff and those pesky Black Friday sales - they've got amazing games to make! We've got six brand new devlogs in the forums this week - among them the gorgeous tile-based strategy game Oberon's Court, rocking epic dragons and volcanoes, The Burger Flipper, a point and click adventure game set in a fast food restaurant, and Droidnaught, a first-person dungeon crawler à la Eye of the Beholder, but set in a sci-fi world!  Meanwhile, other developers are still working extra hard on the sports competition on the TIGSource Forums, with some titles evolving quite nicely, like Buckets of Blood and By the Law of Blades.

20 Games: Bowling Game, Buckets of Blood, The Burger Flipper, By the Law of Blades, Cavernaut, Chroma, Droidnaught, Eris, Famaze, Final Fantasy Football, Nave, Oberon's Court, Pause Ahead, Scout, Skydiving Yo, Sole Gunner, Trenchbrain, Turbo Ball, Ultima Ratio Regum and an untitled game!

As usual click on the picture to see the interactive version on Venus Patrol!

Slimeful: Greedy Piggy Chase Devlog #1.5

Not much to say today! I'm working on the art for the game map, trying to make it clear but also detailed. I'm still a ways off, I think, but I'm making some progress!

TIGS DEVLOG VISUAL MAP #1

I'm hanging out a lot on the TIGSource Forums these days, and I feel like the awesome stuff in the devlog section deserves way more exposure. So many great games in various stages of creation, posting about great ideas, gorgeous visuals and coding stuff I don't understand...

I made a little map of the recent awesomeness on there, and plan on semi-regularly doing so. I'm sorry if not every game makes it on there, I'm selecting them a bit randomly.

Here are links to each game's thread - I'll also recommend you visit the TIGS Forums devlog section and check games out yourself!

Delver - Nave - Pioneers - Flightless - SH3 - Mad Aubergine - Adventure Apes and the Mayan Mystery - Moonman - Dungeon Dashers - Stealer - Dirac - Dwarves, Trains and other stuff - Forma.8 - Tolroko
